Andrew Pringle Booksellers

If you come and visit us are you willing to buy virtually anything and everything?
Unfortunately usually not. We are quite selective in what we buy and are usually looking for the better items in better condition. We would like to think that this is reflected in the quality and condition of our stock. We are however always willing to recommend a number of other dealers who may well have an interest in the books that we do not want.

Do you conduct valuations?
We undertake valuations on a regular basis and this can be for just a single book or for a whole library.

Do you make a charge for valuations?
This is really dependent on the level of work involved. We are quite happy to look at one or two books if they are brought in to our shop and give a rough valuation on them without making a charge. If however a larger amount of work is needed on a bigger quantity of books than we will have to make a charge for this the amount of which will depend on the work involved. In a case like this a full written valuation will always be provided.

Do you exhibit at any of the numerous Book Fairs that are held throughout the country?
We are fairly frequent exhibitors mainly at the Fairs organised by the P.B.F.A. Although we exhibit at Fairs mainly in Edinburgh we can also often be seen in York, Durham, Glasgow, Oxford and London with the odd visit to other venues mainly in England.

Is your business restricted just to the sale of Secondhand and Antiquarian Books?
Although this is very much our main line of business we do keep a stock of prints and also a few maps. A majority of our prints are Scottish with quite a bias towards Edinburgh and we normally keep a stock of portraits and landscapes. This normally includes a fair quantity of Kays Portraits and we usually stock Edinburgh Prints by Shepherd, Swarbreck,Storer and Wilson amongst others.
